Morphodynamic developments in distributary channel networks: impacts in the Pearl River Delta and the Rotterdam Rijnmond channel network

31 July 2020

In 1970 the Haringvliet was closed off and tides no longer enter the Rhine-Meuse delta from this side. Furthermore, dredging activities and construction of new channels and canals have strongly altered the river flow and tidal propagation paths in the system. In this project we study how tides and river flow respond to the changes in channel geometry. Furthermore, we study how climate change and sea level rise can result in increased salwater intrusion lengths.
